Macbeth - Macbeth, Thane of Glamis is a Scottish
general who is led to evil thoughts by the prophecies of the three witches.
Macbeth is a powerful and brave man, but he is not a good one. His hunger for
the throne which gives him temptation to murder and once his King of Scotland,
he is involved in more killings. Macbeth lacks the skills to rule Scotland, his
answer to every problem is violence and murder. He is not comfortable of being
a criminal, he can never cope with the mental consequences of his murders.
Lady Macbeth - Macbeth’s wife, a deeply motivated woman who is desires for power and throne. She is strong and ruthless. She urges her husband to kill King Duncan and take the crown. After the murder, Lady Macbeth falls deeper into guilt and madness, and her conscience affects her to an extent that she eventually commits suicide. (But there is no evidence of this.)
The Three Witches - The three sisters who caused a tragic flaw against Macbeth using charms, spells and prophecies. They’re prophecies made him Thane of Glamis, he orders assassins to kill Banquo and his son and he murdered King Duncan for the throne. After the three prophecies came true, the Three Witches prophesied Macbeth to beware of Macduff, no born of woman shall harm him, and he will remain king unless the wood gets up and goes to Macbeth's castle. They made him believe that he is immortal.
Banquo – Banquo is a courageous general. According to the witches’ prophecy, his children will inherit the throne. Unlike Macbeth, he did not take action even though he had ambitious thoughts. Macbeth betrayed Banquo and murdered him, so his children do not inherit the throne. Banquo’s ghost then haunts Macbeth and he yet suffers the guilt.
Fleance - Banquo’s son. who survives the assassination ordered by Macbeth.
King Duncan - The good King of Scotland who known for being the righteous, kind and wise ruler. He was murdered by Macbeth and his death symbolized the desolation of Scotland.
Macduff - Macduff is a Scottish nobleman who is inimical to Macbeth’s kingship from the beginning. It was his duty to place the rightful king, Malcolm on the throne, but he also craves the desire to seek revenge for Macbeth’s murder of his wife and son.
Lady Macduff - Macduff’s wife.
Malcolm – The son of King Duncan, heir of the throne. After his father’s murder, he becomes weak and hesitant of his own power so he and Donalbain left Scotland. Malcolm becomes a challenge to Macbeth with Macduff striving to place the rightful ruler of Scotland on his throne.
Donalbain - King Duncan’s son and Malcolm’s younger brother.
