William Shakespeare
John Shakespeare and Mary Arden brought their third child into the world on April 23, 1564. William was then baptized on April 26th at the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, England. His father, John, was a mayor of the town who later became a judge, and his mother, Mary, was the heiress to land that had been passed down for many generations.
John and Mary Shakespeare sent their son to a grammar school in Stratford-upon-Avon, but William did not continue his coursework at the university level. At the age of 18, he married a woman named Anne Hathaway, who is at least 8 years older than him. In 1583, their first child Susanna was born and two years later Hamnet and Judith were born but unfortunately Hamnet died at the age of 11.
Between 1958 and 1592, there was no evidence as to how he began his career as a writer. He published his first poem, "Venus and Adonis" and "The Rape of Lucrece." He joined Lord Chamberlain's Men, a company whom Shakespeare wrote for most of his career. Famous actors of the day, Richard Burbage played most of the lead roles and Shakespeare himself also participated in his plays.
The works of William Shakespeare are analysed and performed all over the world. His love poems known as sonnets are taught in almost every grade level at school and his inspirational characters have been influenced the works of visual, literary and performing arts.
